  22. LIGHTWAVE IRC CHANNEL FOR INTERACTIVE LIGHTWAVE INFO!

  24. With the advent of the Internet and low-cost connections via online
  25. services such at Netcom and others providing SLIP/PPP, it is now
  26. possible to work interactively with other LightWave users from around
  27. the globe!  You can interact in REAL TIME with other people who share
  28. your interests.  You can help them and they can help you almost as if
  29. you were right there! How? By using IRC (Internet Relay Chat)!
  30.  
  31. IRC allows one to join different channels (much like CB simulators on
  32. various BBS's or chat rooms on AOL or Prodigy) and to type in real
  33. time to other users, in that channel, from around the world.  There's no
  34. limit to the amount of people you can have in a channel.  With
  35. programs for the Amiga such as GrapeVine and AmIRC, mIRC and WSIrc for
  36. the IBM, IRCII for Unix machines and a SLIP or PPP connection to the
  37. Internet, you too can join in on these conversations!
  38.  
  39. Several of us have created the LightWave IRC chat channel and there's
  40. always somebody there to help people and to just chat about LightWave
  41. and other various topics related to using LightWave. (Sometimes the
  42. conversations stray..but that's the fun of it!)
  43.  
  44. Besides the talk about lightwave, IRC allows you to share files with
  45. others via something called DCC (Direct Client Connect).  While you're
  46. chatting with someone about why your model doesn't render correctly,
  47. you can send them a render of your scene as well as your model so they
  48. can look at them and tell you what you may have done wrong.
  49.  
  50. NOTE: Routinely, updates and patches to LW have been released FIRST on IRC
  51. direct from Newtek!

  53. THE IRC MONTHLY PANEL DISCUSSIONS
  54.  
  55. Myself and a select few individuals are attempting to start what we
  56. hope to be a monthly live interactive conference via IRC (Internet
  57. Relay Chat) pertaining to various aspects of LightWave featuring
  58. prominent figures in the animation/graphics world.
  59.  
  60. We plan to gather an elite group of professional Lightwave animators
  61. as well as recruit professionals in the industry to serve as panelists.
  62. These panelists will answer your questions pertaining to various aspects
  63. of Lightwave. All questions will be routed through moderators which
  64. will pass them on to the panelists.  The guest panelists will then
  65. answer them in turn.
  66.  
  67. HOW IT WORKS:
  68.  
  69. We will have two IRC channels open called; #LWPanel and #Lightwave.
  70. (#lightwave is the normal discussion channel that is available to
  71. everyone all the time)
  72. The panelist will be in #LWPanel while the public will join both.
  73.  
  74. #LWPanel will be moderated and will allow only the panelist to speak
  75. at random while the public will only be able to speak in turn as the
  76. moderator see's fit.

  78. #Lightwave will not be moderated and will allow the public to chat
  79. amongst themselves while awaiting their turn to address the panel.

  81. We feel that this will be a great learning experience for all and
  82. should be alot of fun. This is just another means of sharing
  83. information about LightWave via the Internet. We hope to have you
  84. aboard.

  86. WHERE WE ARE NOW
  87.  
  88. We're currently in the process of setting up the first few months topics
  89. and trying to gather panelists and other professionals to participate in
  90. the panel discussions.  We are also gathering information from you so
  91. that we can make this forum as productive and easy to use as possible.

  93. Please answer the appropriate group of questions below (Panelists or
  94. Attendee) and submit the answers to either of the two addresses listed
  95. at the end of this message.  We are planning on starting the discussions
  96. in March, so please reply as soon as possible.

  99. SOME QUESTIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE PANELISTS

  101. If you are interested in becoming a panelist, please reply with the
  102. following information so that we can determine a date and time that
  103. best suits everyones schedule.

  105. 1) Generally, what day of the week would you be available for one to
  106. two hours starting at 10:00 PM EST?
  107.  
  108. Note: We feel that this time would be the best compromise for the east
  109. and west coast people in the USA. We may change this based on
  110. responses to this questionair.

  112. 2) Please give one other day and time.
  113.  
  114. 3) If there are any particluar dates that would be best for you
  115. between now and the end of March, please list.
  116.  
  117. 4) Please list projects and or accomplishments. We will compile a
  118. list of these for each panelist which will be echoed to the public
  119. before the conference begins.

  130. obtaining access in the near future?

  132. 2) Would you be interested in attending such IRC discussions and do
  133. you feel this is a worth-while project?

  135. 3) What topics would you like to see covered in panel discussions on IRC?

  137. 4) What would be the best time for you to attend such discussions?

  139. 5) Do you need help in getting an Internet connection and an IRC
  140. program so that you can attend the monthly discussions?

  144. can't currently connect via the Interenet.  We will be looking at ways
  145. to get those interested connected up to IRC>
